January 30, 2008 Dressed to kill: the Russian forces are back in fashion, 19th-century style Tony Halpin in Moscow Russia’s armed forces will not only be stronger in future. They will also be better dressed. A couture collection of new military uniforms has been shown to President Putin by Valentin Yudashkin, the country’s famous clothing designer, at a fashion parade in the Defence Ministry headquarters. Chisel-jawed servicemen and leggy female models stood to attention in chic fur collars, stylish peaked caps and goldembroidered tunics as Mr Putin, the Commander-in-Chief, examined the dashing new look on Monday. He remained impassive while Mr Yudashkin and Vladimir Isakov, the Deputy Defence Minister, explained the finer details of the uniforms, but was said later to have approved the designs for general introduction. The uniforms will get their first public display in Red Square on May 9 in a parade marking the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Controversially, Mr Putin is also reviving the Soviet-era practice of parading tanks and nuclear missiles on the square past Lenin’s tomb. Fashion commentators said that the uniforms revived some of the glamour of Russia’s imperial tradition in combination with its recent Soviet history. Izvestia newspaper said that the designs recalled the Hussar style of 19th-century Russia. The Soviet Red Star, which Mr Putin restored in 2002 along with the former Soviet anthem, has been replaced by the imperial double-headed eagle. The defence ministry spent £2 million to commission the designs of new uniforms for the army, navy and air force. Full-scale production is expected to begin this year, at an estimated cost of about £300 million.

Yep, because Russia is coming, after almost century of chaos and revolution, back on track of Russian Empire.
The fancier the uniform generally the more useless the actual performance.
Tell that to Napoleon, the British RedCoats..or better yet the Highland Regiments (even to this day), the Romans or ancient Greeks and to dozens of others. The Nazis also had snappy uniforms and did damn well for most of the war. On the other hand, Washington had a rag tag army and lost every battle except the last one and basically won when France and Spain entered the war against Britian.
The evil axis was no match for a ragtag crew of American fighter and bomber pilots who wore whatever Unca Sam could muster for them. I'd like to try one of these on for a proper fit.
I surrender. Frisk me NOW! These are ceremonial dress uniforms, retard MJS. Do the US Marines go into combat with their dress up uniform and display sword? You actually thought these would be the uniforms worn into battle? Really? Come on? Really?
From Strategy Page an article had gone into the fact(according to their obsevations)that as militaries became more idle they tended to get gaudier uniforms over time.I paraphrase it I'm sure since it was a while back.I meant it sorta jokingly,I need to learn emoticons I guess.
It was a joke,I was thinking of a Strategy Page article on the subject.
Ok, no problem. Problem is, many people actually believe that...and that no unit fit for combat ever passed inspection...crap saw plenty that could never pass inspection and wouldn't last 10 minutes in combat either...which is the more likely outcome.
