Liberty Post Help This page describes our various categories on LP. For assistance with other Liberty Post usage and trouble shooting, please see our FAQ. The list below is our current list of Categories. In order to best facilitate communication on this forum, articles posted on LP should be assingned to one of the various categories to help ensure people searching for information on the various topics will be able to find stories of interest most easily. Due to the constantly changing news climate, we are very interested in feedback from Liberty Post participants about these categories on an ongoing basis. Breaking News While not an actual category, it's description is appropriate here. Articles of most categories can be assigned to "Breaking News", meaning they will be displayed on the top right column of the most active pages. Typically, articles describing events taking place within the previous 24-48 hour period having widespread interest and significance qualify as Breaking News. As a rule of thumb, "News Alert" items appearing on on one of the major news channels or AP, UPI or Reuters would qualify as breaking news, though it is not a mandatory requirement as Breaking News bulletin may come from alternate sources as well. What is not appropriate for Breaking News is content that is substantially editorial in nature. In keeping with that rule, original titles to Breaking News articles should be preserved in a reasonably neutral form, and free of editorial boosting, spinning, or rewriting. Our home page has links to some Breaking News sites for your convenience. News & Current Events Typical stories in this section would be those found in any front section of a major newspaper and involve events within the USA. Typical examples: Those stories that are being followed in the media, or that have an impact on government (state and national), and impact many people; Political scandels; US Budgets - proposed and passed; Bills before Congress; Major catastrophic events - either as Acts of God, Acts of War, or Acts of Man. World News World news is similar to "News and Current Events" but covers events in countries foreign to the USA with the one exception of matters involving the "Israeli-Palestinian conflict", which has it's own category (see below). Constitution & Law Constitution & Law relates to matters relating to proposed Constitutional amendments, high profile court cases and trials and statutory bills under consideration. Crime & Corruption Crime & Corruption is for reports relating to criminal activity, whether violent or white collar corruption within business or government. Editorial Editorials are those writings and cartoons that are written primarily to pursuade the reader to a certain way of thinking. Pieces here include writings both from mainstream columnists as well as local LP members. Because of their nature, Liberty Post software will not permit articles assigned to "Editorial" to be listed as Breaking News. Health, Science & Technology This category is for stories and discoveries related to physics, astronomy, quantum mechanics, medical and biological life sciences, alternative health subjects, inventions, and similarly brain heavy subjects. Humor Humor is for stories that are primarily created for humor. It need not include humorous political commentary that may qualify as "Editorial". LP software will not permit humor items to appear as "Breaking News". Immigration/US Borders This category is for subjects related to foreign goods and persons entering the USA and related legislation. Judicial News Judicial News is for matters related to court rulings and judgeship appointments, departures, confirmations, scandals and other activity occuring within the judicial branch of government. Liberty Post Town Hall This is Liberty Post's own section. Articles posted here relate to LP itself, constructive criticisms of management or operations, LP announcements or are of a friendly nature relating to LP members in general. Israeli/Palestinian Conflict This category is for items that would normally get posted into the "World News" section but involve the on-going conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Due to the intensity of emotions on this subject, and to keep this part of LP manageable, every LP member is limited in the number of daily posts made within this area. Articles that appear here should only be those which discuss the Israel and Palestinian conflict. Money, Finance & Business This category is for items related to such things as the stock market, major corporate business dealings, profits, losses, bankrupcies, acquisitions, international commodity markets, interest rates, currency values, precious metal markets the federal reserve bank, the banking system and other similar asundries. Politics This category is for all issues related to political parties, so-called partisan politics, and matters involving specific elected officials in the capacity of public office. Taxation This is for any and all articles regarding taxes of all sorts whether federal, state or local. War on Drugs Articles relating to illegal drug trafficing, seizures, arrests and the laws related to drugs belong in this category. War on Terror Issues regarding terrorists, terror attacks, and national responses to terrorists This would not include any believed terrorist activity that would be appropriate for "Israeli/Palestinian Conflict". General/Misc Items of interest that do not reasonably fit into any other category should go here. Biker Bar/FR The Biker Bar is for material that is somewhat less than civil in nature. It is for material that typically devolves into flame wars, uses somewhat crude language and is somewhat uncivil in nature (beware there are still limits to material permitted there). LP software will not permit Biker Bar material to be posted to breaking news. In addition, this section is unique in that comments posted here will not appear on "Latest Comments" unless a ping search is conducted. Thank you! Liberty Post |
