WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration. "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package. One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts. "There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done." That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today. In an exchange with Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) about the proposal, the president shot back: "I won," according to aides briefed on the meeting. "I will trump you on that." Not that Obama was gloating. He was just explaining that he aims to get his way on stimulus package and all other legislation, sources said, noting his unrivaled one-party control of both congressional chambers. "We are experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis that has to be dealt with and dealt with rapidly," Obama said during the meeting. Republicans say the $825 billion price tag is too big a burden for a nation crippled by debt and that it doesn't do enough to stimulate the economy by cutting taxes. "You know, I'm concerned about the size of the package. And I'm concerned about some of the spending that's in there, [about] ... how you can spend hundreds of millions on contraceptives," House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) later said. "How does that stimulate the economy?" But White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs countered: "There was a lot of agreement in that room about the notion that we're facing an economic crisis unlike we've seen in quite some time ... that we must act quickly to stimulate the economy, create jobs, put money back in people's pockets." Gibbs disagreed with those who called the meeting window dressing. "The president is certainly going to listen to any ideas," he said. "He will also go to Capitol Hill the beginning of next week to talk to Republican caucuses and solicit their input and their ideas."

LOL, Rush owes Barry a big wet sloppy kiss for this one, he'll have the highest ratings ever on Monday. :-) Translation: "We don't need any of that stinking Freedom of Speech crap! I am your master! Which would actually be good news for us all if the RINO's had the stones needed to stand up to him. Gridlock is our only hope.
I don't like BO. I don't trust BO to do what's right for the U.S. He has a loose tongue which shows me that he isn't very bright but at least we will always know what he is thinking and is up to.
This makes me want to go back to listening to Limbaugh. It's just that it's hard to have a radio on at work.

Rush Limbaugh is one of those conservative cowards who FAILED to demand Obama prove he is a natural born citizen. It may come back to haunt such hypocrites if that fraud and foreigner, that president usurper, knocks them off the air. After all, the same Constitution that guarantees freedoms of speech and religion requires our president to be a natural born citizen. Thats funny,,,,,,,Only problem is that these loons were in Obama's inner circle and a name left off of your list Khalidi is more problematic than the others with the exception of Ayres.
We have seen no proof that Obama fulfills this Constitutional qualification of being a natural born citizen, and unconscionable Obama has failed to provide it, refuses to be open and honest - his records remain sealed - and therefore he rightly remains under a dark cloud of suspicion. Illegitimate Obama appears to be an affirmative action president, plain and simple and unconstitutional. David Ben-Ariel. Sanity personified.
There's something I don't understand - maybe you can help me out. The GOP ran probably it's most "moderate" candidate - a reach-across-the-aisle maverick, doncha know - and he lost. Badly. All the GOP "moderates" in the northeast who were up for re-election lost. Badly. If a person is honest and can overcome his Bush derangement syndrome and evaluate Bush, he was a "moderate". (Expanding government, opening the borders, nationalizing the economy, etc.). He's been discredited. If you listen to Colin Powell, the GOP needs to give the boot to those nasty "social conservative" and become more "moderate". According to him, THAT's the recipe for success. (Yet Powell himself, nominally a Republican, supported Obama over his friend, "moderate" John McClown. So - we're already at the point where it's hard if not impossible to tell the national GOP from the national dems. Yet we're told the GOP needs to become MORE moderate - i.e. even more like the dems. So here's my question - given that people will ususally support the "real" thing rather than a fake copy, how is becoming a fake copy of the dems supposed to result in success for the GOP?

A: It's not. Because the only way out of the wilderness is to stop running on dead issues that have already been settled. Just like the way the Democrats stopped running against the death penalty. There neither is nor ever was any viable "small government conservatism". All GOP candidates have run on it, but then again they also ran on right to life platforms that the public didn't want either.
Has everyone forgotten Rick Santorum, George Allen and Virgil Goode? Heck, Allen won the CPAC straw poll for President in 2006. Republicans have an amazing ability to simply forget facts that disagree with their preconceived notions.
Exactly - After 1968 Democrats blamed moderates for costing them the election and rooted them out, taking a hard turn to the left, the result was a blowout in 1972. Republicans seem to think that they can win elections by appealing to 15-20% of the population, they can't.
